Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content through language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, German or Russian (depending on the school). GVA is truly a "global village." Summary:

To maintain financial operations in accordance with Colorado Educational Accounting Standards; to ensure revenues and expenses are within budget limits and overall fiscal policies and/or practices meet compliance requirements; to maintain accurate balances; to evaluate the feasibility of services within budget parameters; to ensure efficient use of financial resources; and to provide financial guidance and recommendations to administration; to perform necessary accounting tasks in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Implements reporting procedures and program requirements for the purpose of assuring accurate maintenance of records, implementing and managing the account code structure and procedures in accordance with State of Colorado guidelines.
  • Maintains spreadsheets for financial analysis.

 

  • Maintains fiscal information, files and records (e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, contracts, grant monies, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference, reporting and audit trail for compliance.
  • Advises on tax law as it relates to payroll administration, especially on appropriate tax withholding for foreign-national employees.
  • Actively researches, pursues, and writes government, nonprofit grants.
  • Monitors fund and account balances for the purpose of ensuring that all allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and fiscal practices are followed.
  • Prepares various budgets (e.g., general funds, special funds, etc.) for the purpose of providing financial guidance and recommendations to the Director, Principals, Administrators and Board.
  • Prepares monthly forecasts and cash flow statement/analysis.
  • Processes fiscal information for the purpose of updating information and/or authorizing final action in compliance with accounting requirements.
  • Reconciles account balances.
  • Researches and resolves discrepancies of financial information and documentation.
  • Performs account reconciliations of Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Prepares Internal Financial Statements for CFO review.
  • Assists with the yearly budgeting cycle.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports school leadership on issues related to facilities, building purchases, leases, and repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within a school environment.
  • Experience utilizing Specialized Data Systems (SDS) accounting system.

 

  • Experience writing grants for government and/or nonprofit organizations.

Other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of Standardized Accounting Code Structure and of GAAP principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Advanced knowledge of State and Federal regulations that relate to school accounting processes.
  • Knowledge of tax law as it relates to foreign national payroll administration.
  • Knowledge operating standard office technology using pertinent software applications.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines reliably and to plan and manage projects.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
