Global Village Charter Collaborative is the support organization for 5 Global Village Academy schools. Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content through language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, German or Russian. GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through internationally benchmarked curriculum spanning each language village.

The Director of Teaching and Learning provides leadership and support to all instructional and administrative staff to improve teaching and learning outcomes within all Global Village Academies and GVCC. The Director is responsible for the management of school improvement services based on research based strategies, collaboration with school principals, and development of innovative programs that support the Global Village Academy mission towards academic excellence.  The Director of Teaching & Learning must be collaborative in nature who builds the internal capacity of our talented educators.  The Director of Teaching and Learning will directly supervise and support the World Language Coordinator.

You Have:

  • Demonstrated evidence that you are a joyous and passionate educator
  • Engaged in collaborative processes to clearly articulate beliefs about teaching that authentically and positively impact student learning through engaging instructional practices and aligned resources.  
  • Developed, implemented, and monitored teacher induction programs for new teachers and new teachers to the industry.
  • Clearly articulated the pedagogical needs of teachers and developed a professional learning roadmap for teachers across a variety of schools.
  • Guided the effectiveness of school level instructional coaches
  • Analyzed and presented assessment and programmatic evaluation data in a succinct and meaningful way.
  • Strong evidence of designing, implementing, and evaluating curricular resources and assessments
  • Strong evidence of implementing effective and authentic instructional practices that increase student learning
  • A commitment to and thirst for continuously improving teaching and school culture through meaningful and rigorous coaching and professional learning
  • Demonstrated strengths in instructional strategies including but not limited to:  a balanced approach to reading instruction, Cognitive Coaching, Gradual Release Model, and classroom management strategies.
  • Proven ability to contribute to a highperforming leadership team, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills

As part of the team you will:

  • Lead the Instructional Leadership Team
  • Work handin hand with the Executive Director and GVCC team to implement the GVCC mission and vision
  • Work handin hand with the GVA school principals to develop and implement the GVA school mission and vision
  • Support school leadership and school coaches in teacher supervision, evaluation, and coaching
  • Oversee all GVA school's School Performance Framework, Work Plan (UIP) and Improvement Plan.
  • Lead robust weekly Professional Development for staff at our GVA schools
  • Commit to innovating character education fostered through challenging academic work, restorative justice and responsive classroom school cultures, service learning, and whole child learning
  • Lead curriculum, Instruction, Assessment systems development, adoption and implementation
  • Assesses relevant student achievement data and recommends appropriate courses of action including curricular changes based on student achievement data.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A valid teaching license
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education or the appropriate content area. A Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction or related area highly preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years' teaching and instructional coaching experience, preferably in a dual language immersion setting, with at least two of those years' experience at the district or network level.

Reports to the Executive Director of Global Village Charter Collaborative.
